Environmental Awareness Activities at NAU School
Every year, the school organizes events that raise awareness and involve the entire educational community in caring for the planet.
Pellets watch
As part of the Eco-Schools and Blue School programs, NAU School participated, together with families, in an action to monitor and collect plastic pellets on the sands of Carcavelos Beach.
Pellets are small plastic granules that form the basis of many everyday plastic objects. During transport, these granules may be lost into the environment and carried by watercourses into the oceans.
The collections carried out by students and the school community were reported to the Pellets Watch Portugal team, which may then forward the information to an international database. The aim is to perform chemical analyses to identify the origin of the plastics and raise awareness about reducing marine pollution.
Global Ocean Day
NAU School celebrates Global Ocean Day every year through activities that explore and study the marine fauna and flora of our coastline. These initiatives encourage students to understand species characteristics, tides, the sea, and its importance for environmental sustainability and for improving everyone’s quality of life.
Carcavelos Beach Sand Clean-Up
In partnership with the Eco-Schools program and World Ocean Day, NAU School organized a clean-up action on the sands of Carcavelos Beach, involving students, families and school staff. A total of 137 participants joined the initiative and collected 12.6 kg of waste.
The purpose of this action was to raise awareness within the educational community about reducing waste production, reinforce recycling habits, and identify the types of litter commonly left on the beach.
This activity started by TRAQUINAUTA and will continue at the NAU school as it aims to raise awareness among our families to reduce waste production, create more recycling habits and account and understand the type of waste that is left on the beach.
Erasmus+ project with schools in Finland and Hungary
As part of an Erasmus+ project, NAU School began collaborating with two European schools — one in Finland and one in Hungary — to share early childhood education practices and strategies that foster awareness of the need to protect the environment and act against climate change.
Plogging in Monsanto
We combined the celebration of family bonds, during the school’s family event, with our commitment to the planet by organizing a plogging activity — running or walking while collecting litter — in the Monsanto Forest.
